TLG Accessibility Statement

We are committed to complying with the Accessibility Standards covered under The Accessibility for Manitobans Act. Our policies, practices and measures reflect the principles of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity for people with disabilities. If a barrier to accessing our services cannot be removed, we seek to provide alternate ways for people requiring it to access the services. The following policy statements, organizational practices and measures are intended to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act. This policy applies to all employees and management at TLG.

Please contact our Accessibility Coordinator at info@tlg.ca starting the subject line with “Accessibility Coordinator” or send a letter addressed to TLG, Attn: Accessibility Coordinator, 101-110 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1K7 to learn more.

Communication We strive to meet the communication needs of our customers and those who are interested in our services. We maintain a number of tools at TLG’s offices on-site including pens and paper, sufficient seating for longer conversations and quiet and environmentally regulated space. While we do not publish documents on a regular basis, we do offer alternate formats if we do. We commit to making our web communications accessible at the WCAG AA level.

We welcome and respond promptly to feedback we receive on the accessibility of our services from our customers and persons interested in our services. Our Accessibility Coordinator can be reached at the contact information above by addressing your correspondence appropriately. We respond to the feedback we receive and document the actions we take to respond to the feedback we receive including providing ongoing updates to the requester if they ask for them, in an online format that is accessible at the WCAG AA level or in an alternate format.

Assistive Devices We accommodate the use of assistive devices when customers or those interested in using our services are accessing our services or facilities. We do not touch assistive devices without permission from the owner of the device. TLG does not generally provide assistive devices at its offices, but we do offer and are trained in the use of automatic door openers on our North entryway and will seek to acquire on a temporary basis a specifically requested assistive device for the purposes of conducting business.

Support We welcome support persons and strive to interact effectively with the customer or person interested in our services. We interact with the support person only if necessary for the purposes of safety or security and when requested by the customer or person interested in our services attending at our office or through one of our communication channels. In cases where a support person attends to our office, we provide space for our customer or person interested in our service and for their support person to ensure our customer or the person interested in our services has access to their support person at all times.

We allow service animals on our premises and strive to treat them as working animals. We recognize them by their harness or vest and remove distractions for them such as food, loud noises or other potential distractions. We allow our customer or person interested in our services to control and manage their service animal, however if the service animal becomes uncontrollable, we may request an alternate meeting arrangement from our customer or person interested in our services.

Removing Barriers We strive to ensure barrier-free access to our services and facilities and maintain our accessibility features so they can be used as intended. Our building provides accessibility features at two of the three entryways (North includes automatic door and ramp access to security doors and West includes ramp access to an external door with space for transport vehicle parking). Accessing spaces inside the building must be done through security doors in conjunction with the person at TLG with whom you plan to meet. In the building, there are no step-up or step-down transitions, no carpet, wide hallways and effective climate control between the security doors and the TLG offices. The TLG offices have no hallways or other encumbrances and offer unrestricted access to accessible washrooms and the boardroom. We provide seating appropriate to the need and maintain our entryways in winter. In cases where attending at TLG offices is not possible to conduct business, we make alternate arrangements to meet at a location sufficient for the purpose.

We strive to advise our customers and people interested in our services in situations where an accessibility feature becomes unavailable. We provide other ways to access our location during those times.

Training and Awareness We provide training to employees and management covering the ways in which to interact and communicate with people who face barriers to accessing our services. This training includes awareness about use of assistive devices and about correct ways to interact with people who are assisted by a support person and/or are assisted by a service animal. If we have assistive devices on site for a particular use, we provide training for the device. We also offer an overview of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act, The Human Rights Code (Manitoba), the Manitoba Customer Service Standard and our own policies, practices and measures, including updates or changes. Generally, we provide this training for all during onboarding and for specific purposes relating to an identified need. We ensure employees and managers refresh their training once per year.

This policy is reviewed yearly and on a as and when needed basis if feedback or other conditions warrant. This policy is posted to our website.

Feedback We are always working to ensure that our services are accessible to all customers. If you have an idea or question about accessibility support services at TLG, please contact our accessibility coordinator by sending an email to info@tlg.ca and including “Accessibility Coordinator” in the subject line. You can also send a letter addressed to TLG, Attn: Accessibility Coordinator, 101-110 Princess Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1K7.
